October 14 - November 1, 2002

Words that contain silent letters are often misspelled. Read the following list of words, one at a time, and challenge volunteers to spell them. Write students' responses on the board.

Then, review each word and its correct spelling. Point out to students that these words all contain silent letters. Suggest students keep a list of these and other words that contain silent letters in their word journals.
