School SCRABBLE® Activities: Issue #23

Educators and parents have been asking us for more School SCRABBLE® activities. Here they are! Every two weeks, a new page will be posted. We welcome your questions and suggestions. Send them to Cindy McCaffery.

CONCENTRATION ... SORT OF

July 30 - August 10, 2001

Place SCRABBLE® tiles face down on the SCRABBLE® board in a grid that is 10 X 10 letters. The object of the game is to form three, four and five-letter words by remembering the location of letters.

  • Player #1 begins by turning over 3, 4, or 5 tiles. Player #1 MUST make a word using all the tiles turned over. If he or she cannot, the tiles must be placed back in their original positions.

  • Player #2 then turns over 3, 4, or 5 tiles. They may be new tiles or the same tiles Player #1 turned over or a combination of both. Player #2 also must make a word using all the tiles turned over.

  • Play continues in this manner until no tiles remain on the board.

  • Players then calculate their scores by adding up the value of the letters in each word. An additional point is given for a five-letter word. The player with the most points wins.
